Get Wet for a Good Cause

posted by Tracy Klinkroth on Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Getting wet for a good cause sounds like a pretty good idea to John Cook, Technology Reporter at the Puget Sound Business Journal. For nearly a decade, John has written about startups, entrepreneurs and venture capital firms in the Seattle area. In 2000, he launched the P-I’s Venture Capital Notebook—an online resource for those in the startup and venture capital communities, which won a top prize from the Society of Professional Journalists in 2001.

We can also tell you that John has a good sense of humor and doesn’t take himself too seriously; as he’s one of a growing list of local entrepreneurs who are willing to “Get Wet for Charity” by volunteering their time in our Dunk Tank at the Company Picnic. Local literacy non-profit, Page Ahead, is beneficiary of all proceeds raised from the dunk tank.

So, all you Tech Firms—this gives you a golden opportunity to get back at John if you weren’t quite so happy about what he wrote about you in his blog. John is daring you all, telling us, “I know there are some entrepreneurs and venture capitalists around town who wouldn’t mind seeing me dunked under water, maybe permanently. Actually, I look forward to taking a few dunks for a very good cause.”

Stick a Spork in it!

Meeting people and making connections-the most powerful aspect of coming together as a diverse set of Preneurs. And as Preneurs, we often have multiple ideas and needs percolating at once, but no central resource. Until now.

Look no further than the Company Picnic’s Connection Cafe, where you’ll connect with the people you want to meet most and offer your services to the Preneurs who need you.

If you have a need—and you know you do—whether it be a graphic designer, a web resource to help manage inventory, or a funky spot to hold your holiday party, the Connection Cafe was designed for you. Here, amidst the wi-fi access, you will find the superfly “Spork” wall. List your need on a paper plate (provided) and stick it to the wall. Then, as fellow Preneurs see your plate and address your need, they will “Stick a Spork in It”, attaching their business card. At the end of the event, come back and pick up your plate with the variety of sporks to follow up with. Simple!

So whether you have a need, service, or just some advice, stop by the Connection Cafe and connect with your fellow Preneurs.
